EJP Trumpets

Michelle Kingston - Michelle Kingston - lead trumpet. Whether it’s on piccolo trumpet for the Bach Magnificat, the flugelhorn in a jazz combo, or playing in the section in a big band, Michelle does it all with style and flair. "They say variety is the spice of life; it also keeps you busy!" In addition to the Edith Jones Project, Michelle regularly performs with the brass quintet, "Quintopia" the Tuff Skirts jazz/pop combo, and the “Funk Yard Dogs”, a three piece horn section that performs with the rock band “Overdrive”. Although not currently active as a teacher, she has taught privately at several studios including Bowdoin College. Other performance experience includes the Bangor Symphony, the Midcoast Symphony, the Air Force Band of New England, Air Force Band Brass Quintet, the Maine State Music Theater, the New Hampshire Philharmonic, and the Savannah Symphony, Savannah GA. Michelle holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Georgia in Athens , where she studied trumpet with Albert Ligotti, Daniel Di’Addio, and Gordon Mathie. Michelle lives in Waterboro, Maine with her two cats and her husband Joe who is also an accomplished saxophone player and instrument repairman extraordinaire (check out their website at   www.kingstonwinds.com).
Catriona Shepherd is still not sure how she ended up playing in a big band, but after almost 20 years of classical training and many post-call rehearsals, Catriona is happy to have an opportunity to let her hair down and wail with EJP. Catriona had her musical debut in 1984 with the Silver Dollar Band at the Fourth of July Parade in her hometown of Swarthmore, PA. Since then she received a BA in Music from Tufts University and has studied with Seymour Rosenfeld, Charles Schleuter, Dana Russian, Louis Ranger and David Bilger. In addition to being a key member of the EJP trumpet section, Catriona is a member of the brass quintet, "Quintopia" and the Casco Bay Concert Band  When not making music, Catriona is a family physician with the Bowdoin Medical Group.

Lori Wingo is a recovering French horn major from Virginia.  Upon her relocation to the beauteous state of Maine, she soon realized that there are as many French horn players as there are moose in the state.  So, she quickly switched over to her second love, the trumpet.   Lori received her BS in music and English from UVa, and her Master's degree in educational leadership from the University of Maine.   She is a former member of the Roanoke (VA) Symphony Orchestra and currently plays trumpet with the Bangor Symphony.   When she is not tied up with her day job as an assistant director with the University of Maine's Upward Bound program, she finds the time to be a member and business manager of the Acadia Brass Ensemble and the Grand Theatre Pit Orchestra in Ellsworth, ME.    We are delighted to have Lori as a  member of EJP and we are happy to report that she is making great progress in French horn deprogramming through the EJP twelve step program!
Erin Wright is a jazz performance trumpet major at the University of Southern Maine. She has been playing the trumpet for 11 years and the piano for 13 years. Some of her most memorable performances include playing at Merrill Auditorium with Dave Brubeck, performing with Cleo Laine and Johnny Dankwurth, playing at the Rockland Lobster Festival in Don Rickle's "stage" band, and playing on numerous radio shows. From her first time on stage, she knew she wanted to perform. She currently lives in Gorham with her husband and big, goofy dog named Mac. When not playing music, she enjoys running, hiking, sailing, and singing.

MaryLee Haughwout, a Maine native, grew up in Bowdoinham, and at the tender age of 10 began playing the trumpet.  Music has been a part of her life ever since.   MaryLee holds a Bachelors in Music for trumpet performance from Oberlin Conservatory of Music and a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies.  Her previous teachers include John Schnell, Charles Couch, and Ryan Anthony.    MaryLee is currently working on her Master's degree in Environmental Sciences at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, so she is not regularly playing with EJP right now.   However, we can't bear to take her off our website because we miss her so much!!  MaryLee enjoys hiking, biking , and exploring Maine's back roads.
